Jantziaren Zentroa's summer proposal takes us to the Belle Époque. These are the decades between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the First World War. At this time a new social class arises, the bourgeoisie, which promotes leisure and entertainment. In this exhibition Jantziaren Zentroa presents, through replicas created for the exhibition, the clothes that women used to wear at night and during the day.
At night, we will enter a party at the Gran Casino of San Sebastian inaugurated in July 1887. We will see replicas of eight women's evening dresses. With skirts that reach the floor, these are the last years of a style or fashion that is about to disappear.
By day women begin to practice sports. Most of them are born in the United Kingdom, and with it a more practical clothing. We will see what clothing they used for horse riding, cycling, motoring, tennis and wave bathing. Bloomer pants, horsewoman's costume, and the first swimsuits that emerged in the 1860s. The exhibition is completed by texts created for the exhibition explaining the difficulties women had when they started to play sports.
The information on the panels is in Basque and Spanish.
