In the towns of Errenteria, Oiartzun, Lezo et Pasaia, just 5 minutes from Donostia - San Sebastian, you will not only taste, you can also experience the Basque gastronomy smearing your hands with the freshest ingredients of our land and sea, all this thanks to the gastronomy experiences that can be lived in this region. Learn, touch, feel, taste... live the authentic Basque gastronomy in our land.
To do this, here are five magnificent plans that you can enjoy with the five senses:
Cooking workshop in the Ziaboga Restaurant in Pasai Donibane, which is located on the shore of the sea and in the heart of the old town.
The workshop consists of a presentation of the chef Alex Barcenilla, who, accompanied by coffee, explains what the workshop will consist of and which typical dishes will be prepared: kokotxas, cod pil-pil, squids, etc.
Then a selection of products is made where you learn to choose the best pieces. If the sea has allowed to fish, Juanito Makazaga, a veteran squid-fisher, will show his captures of the day and will tell his peculiarities.
Once the menu is chosen, it is prepared according to the guidelines of the chef in order to go to the dining room and enjoy what you have cooked yourself.
Arrive by boat to Albaola – The Sea Factory of the Basques, enjoy the construction of the San Juan ship, an exact replica of the whaling ship built in the 16th century, just before your very eyes, and find out what is the relation between the cider and the sea.
Then, come back to the port of Pasaia by boat, and get involved in the culture of the Basque cider in Sagardoetxea, the Museum of the Basque Cider, where they will explain you what the secret of the sailors to avoid scurvy was. To end the day, taste the local gastronomy in a cider house.
The Momotegi farmhouse, located in the heart of the Natural Park of Aiako Harria, opens its doors to show us the work of breeding ducks and geese and the craftsmanship of derived products.
We will visit the farm where these birds are raised, and we will know the different varieties of products that are obtained, learning how they are made.
After the visit, we will taste their handmade products, which will consist of a tasting of foie gras, duck ham and confit. The price of the visit includes either a foie terrine of 70gr. or 10€ of discount on the purchase of any of the products that are for sale.
