The region of Oarsoaldea, which is formed by Errenteria, Lezo, Oiartzun and Pasaia, still perfectly preserves its essence and invites you to let yourself be carried away by landscapes full of contrasts. Located just 5 minutes from Donostia - San Sebastian, between the sea and the mountains, and sheltered by the Aiako Harria Nature Park, and surrounded by the sea of the unique Bay of Pasaia, this region combines tradition and the avant-garde.
We suggest 5 TOP plans so that you can get to know this exceptional territory in depth.
Donostia-San Sebastián is one of the most beautiful capitals in the world and only 5 km away is one of the most charming towns on the Basque coast:
In this town, which surrounds the shores of a bay of calm waters and is sheltered by stunning cliffs, it is essential to visit the traditional Mater traditional tuna boat, a unique museum that offers a wide range of activities related to culture and the marine environment, and the Albaola Maritime Factory, where you can see the live construction of a replica of a 16th-century whaling ship.
Walking through the historic old towns of Pasai Donibane and Pasai San Pedro, in their unique narrow and cobbled streets, built between the mountain and the sea, with their peculiar bridge-houses and historic buildings, will undoubtedly take you on a journey back in time.
Next to the Bay of Pasaia and at the foot of Mount Jaizkibel stands a real jewel to be discovered: Lezo.
In its old town stands the Basilica of Santo Cristo, famous since ancient times for its beardless Christ. This Renaissance basilica is surrounded by small streets of emblazoned and attached square houses that make up a perfectly preserved and charming old town..
One of the natural sites closest to the capital of Gipuzkoa and which offers an endless number of alternatives for enjoying nature in all its splendour is the Aiako Harria Nature Park.
From Donostia - San Sebastián begins a 17 km route that is fully adapted for pedestrians and cyclists, reaching Oiartzun through an urban cycle lane. From Oiartzun we can take the Arditurri Greenway, the old railway line used to transport the ore extracted from the Arditurri mines, in the heart of the Nature Park, to the port of Pasaia.
These mines, already exploited in Roman times, are now open to the public, where you can go deep into the depths of the mountain and explore its galleries. There are also two other unique museums along the way: Luberri - Geological Interpretation Centre and Soinuenea - Basque Popular Music Centre.
The Fort of San Marko, crowning the summit of Mount Bizarain in Errenteria, is considered the best viewpoint on the entire coast of Gipuzkoa.
This 19th century Carlist building, allows us to walk from its deep secret passages to the top of its viewpoint.
You can also take advantage of the journey and visit the centre of Errenteria. Once known as " The Little Manchester" due to its great industrial tradition, it is home to a old town declared a Monumental Site, with medieval vestiges and where you can visit Jantziaren Zentroa, a museum that allows you to learn about the evolution of clothing over the centuries and discover the history of fashion and the way of dressing in the Basque Country.
In Errenteria, Lezo, Oiartzun and Pasaia, as well as tasting, you can also experience our gastronomy by getting your hands dirty with the freshest ingredients from our land and sea, all possible thanks to the gastronomic experiences that can be enjoyed in this region: traditional cooking or canned fish workshops, a tasting visit to a duck product workshop or a complete experience where you can learn about the relationship between the sea and cider. With all of them you will be able to learn, touch, feel and taste our gastronomy.

On the way we will find the dolmen of Aitzetako Txabala. And also, very close to there we will also find the Forts of San Marcos and Txoritokieta, as well as the monolith of Txoritokieta. If we continue walking to the Fort of San Marcos, we can visit its museum during the high season. From the Church of Bonanza the ride leads us to the entrance of the Bay of Pasaia, where we can admire the cliffs that are on both sides of the mouth. The mount of Arramendi is the closest natural space around the center of Errenteria. It has an altitude of approximately 80 meters and it can be reached from the Errenteria Tourist Office, although there are two other entrances to the park: from the Gaztaño or Pontika neighborhoods. During the Carlist Wars, there was a fortress on the summit of this hill, although now we can only appreciate the remains. While we enjoy the views from the top, we can recharge our batteries and have a break on the benches and tables that we find there.
We will take out our explorer's talent and we will go in search of the 19th century Carlist towers of Lezo. Nowadays, 5 of the towers can still be seen at the top. To access by car, we can take the GI-3440 road until we reach the summit, park our car and continue walking from tower to tower. The way from here has no difficulty, as it goes next to the towers . We can also follow the signs of the St. James' Way.

Although the route that we suggest is a bit longer than the previous proposals, it is very easy to do it by foot or by bicycle. It has very little slope and if you prefer, you can start at any intermediate point of the route. Walking along the course of the Oiartzun River, the path will lead us to the side of Aiako Harria Nature Park, to finish in the Arditurri Mining Land. On the way we will also find several restaurants and very close to the green way we can also visit two other museums of the village (Soinuenea and Luberri).
Holding the map in your hands, you will have to follow this game of clues to test your orientation and complete the route. There are four different routes of different length and difficulty beginning from the recreational area of Barrengoloia (Errenteria), within the Natural Park of Aiako Harria. Immerse yourself in this unique adventure! You can get these maps at the Tourist Office of Errenteria or download them to your phone.
