Jantziaren Zentroa

Located in the historic centre of Errenteria, in a building of the seventeenth century, Jantziaren Zentroa will allow you to travel and know the evolution of clothing, and at the same time discover the history of fashion and the style of dressing in Euskal Herria and in Europe.

Permanent exhibition

Two floors, which house two different proposals.

In the M/Boda exhibition, we will see 16 wedding dresses that help us understand the evolution of the clothing that women have used to get married.

The main room houses 13 wedding dresses, all white or beige, from between 1840-1988. As for origin, one is from San Sebastián, from 1958, the rest are international from France, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain.

Between 1880 and 1920 the color of the wedding dress changed when women began to get married dressed in black. There were two reasons for the color change, one due to grief, the other common sense. At that time, women had few clothes and they reused and took advantage of them, wearing the same dress on more than one occasion.

Outside the room we will see three black wedding suits from the aforementioned period. They are all from Euskal Herria, donated by their owners to Jantziaren Zentroa, these are wedding dresses from Vitoria, Leitza and Ordizia.

Two centuries of evolution in fashion

The exhibition on the second floor begins in the 18th century and ends in 1960. There are 20 costumes, with which we can see in the room the evolution and change of fashion in recent centuries. Among the garments on display, two women's garments worn for the street stand out, one of them called "visita" is made with fabric similar to the Manila shawl, and the other is a coat for going to the opera.
